Privacy Policy

Effective Date: February 26, 2026

1. Overview

Tether is a Chrome extension designed to help you reclaim your focus. We believe that tools for digital well-being should never come at the cost of your personal privacy. Our architecture is "privacy-first," meaning we prioritize local execution over cloud storage.

No Server Side

We do not operate servers that store your browsing history or habits. Everything stays on your machine.

Local Storage

Your blocked sites, time limits, and statistics are stored in Chrome's local storage engine.

Zero Accounts

You don't need to sign up. No email, no password, no profile stored on our end.

2. Information We Collect

Local Data (Device Only)

The following data points are generated by your usage and stored ONLY on your local device:

Anonymous Analytics

To improve Tether, we collect minimal, non-identifying technical data via secure endpoints:

3. How We Use Data

We use the locally stored information solely to provide the extension's core functionality—blocking sites when limits are reached and displaying your productivity stats to you.

Note: We do not sell, rent, or lease your data to third parties. We do not use your productivity data to serve advertisements.

4. Security & Protection

Your data is protected by the built-in security features of Chrome. Since there is no central database, there is no single point of failure that could expose your data to hackers.

Retention

Your data exists as long as the extension is installed. Uninstalling Tether immediately wipes all local storage associated with it.

5. Third-Party Services

6. Your Rights

Under regulations like GDPR, you have the right to access and delete your data. Because Tether stores everything locally, you can exercise these rights simply by viewing your stats in the extension popup or clearing your extension data/uninstalling.
